AYFL Line Camp is a great opportunity for players (linemen, linebackers, and tight ends) to practice and prepare for the fall season. Camp will take a developmental approach; it is not about winning or losing, but gaining the skills that will prepare you to be successful in the upcoming seasons. During this camp, your child will be able to work with experienced coaches including coaches from the Ashburn high schools, and, potentially, some special guests!
Everyday, your child will be able to learn skills including stances, tackling, blocking, and rushing in order to either break bad habits or improve for the upcoming season.
Lastly, we will be having an award ceremony where coaches will be awarding players who stood out performance wise, and improved over the week.
When and where is camp?
Summer camp will start on July 25th, 2022 and end on July 28, 2022.
If weather requires us to cancel on one of the days, July 29th, 2022 will be held as a make-up rain date.
The exact location of camp is TBD, however it will likely occur at one of the Ashburn High Schools (SBHS or BWHS).
Players will be expected to report to SBHS by 7:00AM and camp will continue until 10:00AM daily.
Who can participate in camp?
It will be open to all players who will be in third to ninth grade in the 2022-2023 academic school year.

Players do not have to live in the Ashburn area to participate.

If you are unable to pick up equipment ahead of camp, we will be able to provide equipment on the day of camp at extra cost.
What safety protocols will be in place?
There will be an on-staff trainer at camp that will be available to help players if they get injured or feel sick.
Water will be provided, however we do encourage players to bring their own.

I would like to volunteer, what can I do?

Counselors are crucial in helping the coaching staff by providing water to players, walking players to different fields/the cafeteria, and aiding players on and off the field. If you are interested in becoming a counselor, please email us at email@example.com.

COACH MIKE BURNETT
BRIAR WOODS HIGH SCHOOL VARISITY FOOTBALL
Coach Mike Burnett is the current head coach of the Briar Woods High School Falcon Varsity Football team. Coach Burnett has been coaching for over 15 years, leading teams such as Broad Run High School (2006-2010), Tuscarora High School (2010-2018), Harvard-West Lake in Los Angeles (2018-2021), prior to joining the BWHS Falcons.
While at Broad Run, Coach Burnett brought home 2 VHSL State Championships before leading Tuscarora to 2 VHSL State Championship game appearances.
Coach Burnett is often referred to as a "line expert," knowing how to build programs with competitive offensive and defensive lines from scratch. He recognizes that skills start at the youth football age so teaching youth football players how to tackle, block and rush safely will only better prepare them for the next step in their football careers. In the past, Coach Burnett has generously given his time to AYFL by coaching at the 2008-2015 AYFL Development Camps.
COACH MICKEY THOMPSON
STONE BRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL VARISITY FOOTBALL
Coach Thompson is the current head coach of the Stone Bridge High School Bulldog Varsity Football team. A native of Charleston, WV, Coach Thompson graduated in 1981 with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from the University of Virginia. He played defensive tackle for the Cavaliers from 1977-1981. He completed his Masters in Technology from GMU in 2001. Coach Thompson has been coaching for over 35 years, leading teams such as Park View High School (1990-2000), and Stone Bridge High School (2000-present).
While at Park View, coach Thompson posted a 74-39 record, leading the team to a VHSL championship game appearance. With the SB Bulldogs, Thompson has earned three VHSL State Titles (2007; Spring 2021; Fall 2021) with an additional 7 VHSL Runner Up titles.
Coach Thompson is well known as a legendary head varsity coach. Similarly to Coach Burnett, Coach Thompson understands that youth football is critical to developing well trained and athletic football players for high school programs. Coach Thompson has also generously given his time to the AYFL by coaching his sons (while simultaneously coaching at SBHS) while they played in the AYFL and coaching at the 2008-2015 AYFL Development Camps.
